The Southwire Engineering Academy (SWEA) is a cooperative internship program for 11th- and 12th-grade Carrollton High School STEM program students. Developed by Southwire Company and Carrollton City Schools, SWEA promotes achievement in science, technology, engineering and mathematics while enabling students to apply these disciplines in a real-world manufacturing setting.
SWEA students apply engineering principles and critical thinking to solve modern manufacturing challenges.
Daily interaction with the best minds in the industry gives students a view into a world of educational and career possibilities.
The demand for science, technology, engineering and math skills, collectively known as STEM, and the constant supply of real-world business challenges make SWEA an effective and sustainable model.
From the moment they arrive at Southwire, they are treated like a real Southwire employee.
They join their assigned team and are greeted by their Project or Lead Project Engineer.
12:30 – 2:45 p.m.
The teams quickly review their ongoing engineering challenges and get to work.
It's now time to clean up workstations, record progress updates, clock out and head home.
